Stay Grounded on the Go-Go-Go

SUMMER SELF-CARE SERIES
Week 2: JUNE 9-15

Ah, summer. Long, sunny days, warm nights, and a calendar bursting at the seams. For many of us, summer is anything but slow. Between driving kids to camp, juggling sports practices, coordinating family vacations, and making the most of every beautiful day, summer can feel like a sprint. There’s a unique pressure this season: if the weather’s nice, we should be outside; if the kids are free, we should be busy; if opportunities arise, we should say yes.

But amidst the excitement and activity, we often lose one crucial thing: our grounding. We rush from one commitment to the next, always moving, rarely pausing. And though summer is filled with fun, it can leave us feeling depleted, overwhelmed, and, ironically, disconnected from the joy we set out to experience.

That’s why summer is the perfect time to lean into a grounding practice. At Prana, we believe that when the world around you speeds up, slowing down becomes a radical form of self-care. Carving out moments of stillness isn’t selfish—it’s necessary.

Find your Center with meditation

Tom Barry

This week, we invite you to reconnect with your center through a beautiful grounding meditation from our own special teacher, Tom Barry. Tom’s approach is simple yet powerful, designed to bring you back into your body and into the present moment. Even five to ten minutes with his guided meditation can shift your energy from scattered to steady, from reactive to peaceful.

Practice of the Week

Mountain Pose + Grounding Meditation

Pair Tom’s meditation with one of the most grounding asanas out there: Mountain Pose (Tadasana). On the surface, Mountain Pose may look like “just standing”—but this simple posture holds immense power. It invites us to feel our feet firmly planted on the earth, to stack our bones in alignment, to lift our chest and crown with quiet strength. It reminds us that stability doesn’t come from doing more, but from rooting ourselves fully where we are.

Intention for the Week

As you practice, let this mantra guide you:

“Root down to rise up.”

Feel your feet pressing into the ground. Feel the energy drawing upward through your legs, spine, and crown. Feel the balance between steadiness and lightness. Just like a tree, the deeper your roots, the taller and more expansive you can become.

Whether you’re in the middle of a packed day of errands or taking a rare quiet morning for yourself, these practices are here for you. They don’t require fancy equipment or a long block of time. You can do Mountain Pose while waiting for the coffee to brew. You can close your eyes and listen to Tom’s meditation while sitting in your parked car between drop-offs.

This summer, let’s resist the temptation to always be in motion. Let’s give ourselves permission to pause, breathe, and ground—even if just for a few minutes. The season will still be full of adventures. But with a grounding practice, you’ll show up to those adventures feeling more centered, more patient, and more connected to yourself.
